A few days ago, Twitter released a new application called “Periscope”. The application enables you to broadcast live videos from anywhere in the world through your mobile device.

Periscope

First steps

The application is available for iPhone users only, the Android version is on its way.

First, you need to sign in with your Twitter credentials to create an account.

Sing in

Then you will see a list of users you are following on Twitter. You can add them as a favorite or simply follow them.

Periscope has a timeline, you can view a list of live broadcasts happening now.

TimelineJust like Twitter, there is a Followers and Following counter and the feature of blocking users. The hearts means how many profiles liked your broadcasts

How to broadcast

Simply click the Camera button in the middle of the lower screen and start broadcasting. If you click on the lock screen, the broadcast will be private.

Perhaps the coolest feature is the ability to chat and ask questions with the broadcaster!

What’s in it for me?

Perisope is still new but there is a huge potential for businesses when there are enough users using it. Some ideas:

  1. This is a boost for citizen journalism where Tweeps can now live broadcast current events and breaking news wherever they are.
  2. Businesses can live broadcast events related to their business and chat with their clients and Tweeps who wanted to attend.
  3. Special interviews with celebrities or business owners and guess what, you can ask them any question!

To sum it up, Periscope will take Live Tweeting to the next level!
