What is the ideal length of online content?

You might have noticed lately that some posts on Facebook might get more engagement than others in the same page. The same goes with Twitter and LinkedIN. After studying the behavior of Fans and Followers on social media using sources like Social Bakers, Quintly and BufferApp, the following are the ideal length to post on different social media platforms:

Twitter

The ideal length of a tweet is 100 characters

The ideal length of a Google + headline is 60 characters

  1. I think the the 1600 words on a blog post is a wee bit too long – I’ve experimented with this over the years and have found that any post over 900 words begins to lose the attention of today’s readers. In fact, a few years back, I posted a blog on this topic, titled, “Attention Economy: Driver Behind Twitter’s Acquisition of Video Firm Vine? –

  2. Hi David/Ali
I am surprised by these statistics? Are they for content length or for headlines? Twitter for me is understandable but I don’t know whether to go along with the stats on Facebook.

If these are for content length then I am sure many people are sharing wrongly in most social platforms!

  3. Hey David/Ali

Each social media site has it’s own personality and characteristics. With that, it’s going to attract certain people that are going to use a great amount of time of using them.

These stats will give all of us a general idea of engagement, but I have seen some, like on facebook, that the length is well over 40 characters but yet they get a lot of comments. Facebook is more social compared to what I’ve seen in other platforms.

But I will look at the other tools you mentioned here at the beginning of your post! Thanks for sharing and I hope you have a great weekend!
